Assoc. prof. Bohumil Seifert, MD, Ph.D

Bohumil Seifert started his academic career and international activities after 20 years of serving full time as a GP in the community. He is still practising on a half timetable in Prague. He has been teaching family medicine in the university since 2003. He completed his doctoral studies in Preventive Medicine in 2007. In 2009 he was appointed as an associated professor at Charles University and Head of the Department of General Practice.  He served in this position untill 2023.

Bohumil Seifert’s main research interest has been in the epidemiology and management of gastrointestinal disorders in primary care and in secondary prevention of colorectal cancer.
He has been a leading person in colorectal cancer screening programme in the Czech Republic since the beginning in 2000. He has published several articles in impacted journals and presented data on the screening at local and international meetings (UEGW, WONCA). He is an author of a guidebook for general practitioner on colorectal cancer screeening. He participated in the creation of international guidelines in the field of primary care gastroenterology. .

     He served as a scientitific secretary of ESPCG for 3 years. He has been also working for many years in different international networks, work groups and committees under WHO,  WONCA and UEG. He has been a member of Primary Care Committee working currently on Rome V criteria for Diseases of Brain-Gut interaction.

     He has chaired several international meetings, particularly the WONCA World Conference 2013 and the WONCA Europe conference in 2017.
